DC Universe releases character promos for Titans
If you’re a DC fan, you’re probably anxiously awaiting the premiere of Titans, a live-action take on the company’s stable of superheroes coming to the DC Universe streaming service in October. If you’re not, you may know this show as the one where Robin wails on some dudes and then says, “F**k Batman.” Because edgy.
Anyway, DC Universe has released some promos highlighting the show’s characters, including Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire and Raven, all of whom gained popularity as the stars of Teen Titans, an animated show on Cartoon Network. The promos are pretty good, which is to say they’re less cheesy than I expected:
Our first look is at Robin, played by Brenton Thwaites. He’s so dark and brooding, there’s no way he isn’t from the DC universe.
Robin, real name Dick Grayson, is a former circus performer who Batman trains as his sidekick after the deaths of his parents. But you probably already knew that part. Now an adult, Dick tries to step out of his mentor’s shadow by becoming the leader of the Titans. Gritty, man.
Next up we have Raven, the daughter of a demon. Her powers include empathic abilities and spookiness. She’s played by Teagan Croft.
Lightening up the room is Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), a green-haired dude who can transform into animals.
And finally there’s Starfire (Anna Diop), an alien princess who can light s**t up.
You can sign up for DC Universe here. Titans drops on October 12. Will the show be enough to make the new streaming service a competitor to things like Netflix? Probably…not. I mean, it’s going to stream on Netflix outside the U.S. and China.
