Doctor Who: How to watch the Series Eleven premiere

We’re less than one day away from the broadcast of a brand new series of Doctor Who! Are you ready for the first episode of the Thirteenth Doctor?

It’s so strange that tomorrow, we’ll be watching Jodie Whittaker’s debut as the Thirteenth Doctor in Doctor Who. After all, this is a moment that we have all been waiting a long time for. Some of us since the ending moments of Twice Upon a Time, others since the announcement of Whittaker’s casting last year. Even those skeptical of the casting are likely to watch the episode, just to see what the new Doctor is like.

We’ll also be introduced to three brand new companions. Because the companions are such an important part of the series, particularly since it’s through their eyes that we see the Doctor and their adventures, I’m almost as curious to discover what they’re like as much as Whittaker’s Doctor.

What to expect

But what else can we expect from the first episode of Series Eleven? Here’s what we know from the official synopsis for The Woman Who Fell to Earth.

"‘We don’t get aliens in Sheffield.’ In a South Yorkshire city, Ryan Sinclair, Yasmin Khan and Graham O’Brien are about to have their lives changed for ever, as a mysterious woman, unable to remember her own name, falls from the night sky. Can they believe a word she says? And can she help solve the strange events taking place across the city?"

So we can definitely expect a little amnesia on the new Doctor’s part. Which isn’t really surprising, for two reasons. One, we get evidence of it in a recent preview clip from the episode. Two, amnesia is a pretty common side-effect of regeneration. (Well, at least for the Doctor. In fact, it was basically a major plot point for the TV movie.)

More from Winter is Coming

If you’re in the US, and you’re afraid of having to wait a few hours more than those in the UK to see the brand new episode, there’s no need to worry. Doctor Who will be broadcast on BBC America at 1.45pm ET / 10.45am PT. Which is exactly when the episode will be shown in the UK, at 6.45pm on BBC One.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve had a global simcast. In 2013, The Day of the Doctor was broadcast in 94 countries simultaneously. Considering just how major the first woman Doctor in history is, it’s not surprising that Whittaker’s first episode is also getting a similar treatment.

Here are some key details if you want to check out tomorrow’s brand new episode on streaming services.
