Ladies and gentlemen, Jeffrey Wright of Westworld was confused about season 2 as well–but for other reasons.

Westworld really tripped people up in the second season as fans spent the entire season trying to make sense of what is going on. In an interview on Coach Surfing through PeopleTV.com, Wright spoke about how he was confused during the second season as well, but not for reasons you might think.

Wright now has two Emmy nominations for his work on Westworld and had an epic second season as Bernard who spent the entire season confused and with mixed memories. During his interview, he spoke about working with Anthony Hopkins and how confusing it was to do scenes that took place later in the season.

Since they hadn’t really read the scripts, Wright said, “That was tough, and, of course, shifting through timelines and in the real world and inside of simulations.” It was a challenge for both of them especially because Hopkins filmed his scenes in the first two months of the last season.

So while Wright had read the script for the first episode of the recent season, he was filming scenes for the back end of the season. So if we thought we were confused about Westworld season 2, then we paled in comparison to what Wright experienced during filming.

Wright also mentioned that the showrunners are always on set before any scene is filmed and that any complex scenes are rehearsed days before. His confusion is solved with the help of the showrunners who explain and break down exactly what they want him to do and how they want Bernard to appear in each particular scene.

Given the complex nature of Westworld season 2, one can only imagine what it must have been like to film those scenes. For Wright specifically who had to break down each scene based on when and where Bernard was, and then act accordingly.
