How are HBO’s Westworld and ABC’s Lost similar?
By Ariba Bhuvad
Many will agree that Lost confused the heck out of them through it’s run, and a similar sentiment is shared about the second season of Westworld. So what makes these two shows similar? Let’s take a look!
Westworld had a convoluted, complicated second season and while some were tuned into the puzzles and mysteries of it, some found themselves in the dark the entire time. Nonetheless, this is precisely why we love this series so much, and why we can’t wait for it to come back.
A show that is similar in mystery, allure, and theories galore is ABC’s Lost. Fans of both shows are always in sync with what is going on and absolutely love dissecting all the mysteries surrounding them. It’s no surprise that both shows are more alike than we realize, and here is why.
According to an article by Forbes, both realities are distorted and people that live in both of them are desperately trying to get back home, whatever home may mean to them. Furthermore, both shows love the concept of multiple timelines which make for some interesting moments when trying to grasp what exactly is happening.
While Westworld has not ended just yet, Lost fans will remember the mystery of the series finale and how it haunts them to this day. There were so many questions left unanswered and it’s not a stark difference than how those who watch Westworld feel. There are so many questions after each episode ends, and months will go by spent in trying to figure out what each scene meant.

During the second season, we learned that the park is on an island, giving us another huge similarity to Lost. A crossover event would be absolutely amazing, don’t you think?
Forbes also points out the James Delo scene from “Riddle of the Sphinx” was very similar to the scene when we first meet Desmond in Lost while he was in the Hatch. And this is most likely just scratching the surface.
While the Lost finale was lost (pun totally intended) on most of us, we have to remember the episodes and journey we took in the episodes preceding it were memorable, dramatic, and so engaging that it didn’t matter where we ended up.
And I believe this will be the case for Westworld as well which is a show that has such strong badass characters, intense plot and character development, and enough allure to keep us watching for years (hopefully!) to come.
Here are to more flashbacks, flash-forwards, and everything in between for the third season of Westworld, and may the hope we have for Sawyer, Jack, and Kate to cross paths with Dolores and Bernard come true one day.
