Disney removes Kylo Ren joke from Wreck-It Ralph 2 at Lucasfilm’s request
By Corey Smith
Typically owning everything, as Walt Disney does, tends to be an advantage. Need a quick crossover in your latest animation project? Would you like an X-Man, Avenger, Jedi or just plain old Mickey Mouse? Disney can provide all of those and more, but it seems not everyone is a fan of how their characters might be depicted in said crossover. Such was the case when the directors of Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, thought it would be fun to include a quick cameo by current Star Wars villain, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Moore explained how it all went down:

"At one point we had a joke about Kylo Ren being kind of a spoiled child. We went to Lucasfilm and said, here’s what we’re doing. And they said, well, we’d prefer that you don’t show him as a spoiled child. You know, he is our villain, and we’d prefer you don’t do that. So we were respectful of that."
Certainly, you don’t want two of your divisions fighting with one another, but let’s be honest, it wouldn’t have been the first time fans likened Ren to a spoiled child. From constantly screaming about Luke’s lightsaber being his, to smashing his own helmet to pieces, Kylo Ren has hardly been the model of emotional maturity. Driver himself even famously made fun of his character’s people skills during a Saturday Night Live appearance.
Lucasfilm’s reluctance is even stranger when you consider Ren isn’t the only Star Wars character set to appear in Wreck-It Ralph 2. C-3PO has a small bit as a butler to a Disney Princess in the film, an appearance Lucasfilm apparently had no issue with. So its okay to make fun of the robot but not the evil villain? We see how it is, L3-37 would be so disappointed with you, Disney.
