Another unexpected character will return in Avengers 4

Avengers 4, the hotly anticipated followup to Avengers: Infinity War, is around the corner, and story revelations have been leaking out left and right. Two big leaks sprung just last week, one about a new path for an established character and one about the return of a character we didn’t think we’d see again.

Nevertheless, Marvel does have a plan to prevent leaks, little though it works. Karen Gillan, who plays Thanos’ daughter Nebula in the MCU, talked about it on the Shoot This Now podcast. “We didn’t even get a script,” she said. “There was no script. Just my scenes. I’d sometimes get them just in the morning, do them, hand them back over at the end of the day. I mean, the directors would fill us in on everything that we needed in terms of context, but still, I don’t know what this movie’s about.” (You can listen to the whole podcast below; Gillan talks about the Marvel stuff around the 17:00 mark.)

That sounds a little like what HBO did to preserve the integrity of Game of Thrones season 8. Liam Cunnighman (Davos Seaworth) revealed that cast members only received their scripts digitally, and couldn’t unlock them unless they were in the studio or had prior authorization.

But Marvel’s problem has never been technology. All the recent Avengers 4 leaks are the result of actors taking pictures or saying things they shouldn’t, which brings us to…

Yes, there’s been another Avengers 4 leak. This one comes from producer Michael Grillo, who along with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke during a panel at the 2018 Austin Film Festival over the weekend. Talking about the difficulty of prepping for the movie, he said: “[W]hen we got Tilda Swinton, she was just a 1-day availability.”

You may recall that Tilda Swinton played the Ancient One, a master mystic and Doctor’s Strange’s mentor, in Doctor Strange. Last we saw her, she was killed by her former pupil Kaecilius, so we’re not sure how she could return. Naturally, the internet has some ideas.
