Not satisfied with making all the money in the world from Star Wars in the cinema, Disney is making a live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. The series, which will stream on Disney+, Disney’s new streaming service, will follow the rise of the Mandalorian people roughly three years after the death of Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi.
Variety now reports that Disney has offered the lead role to Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell), and that negotiations are underway. Iron Man director Jon Favreau, the main creative force behind this whole thing, says that the show “follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” We dare say Pascal is up to it.
Disney has been giving out a lot of info about The Mandalorian lately, including a look at a high-powered list of directors:
- Dave Filoni, the showrunner for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels
- Deborah Chow (Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Fear the Walking Dead, and Mr. Robot)
- Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Dope)
- Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron
- Taika Waititi, the guy behind Thor: Ragnarok and the voice of Korg
Here’s a look at the Mandalorian’s weapon of choice:
Zaaaaap.
The Mandalorian will be the first live-action Star Wars show, but it won’t be the only one. Another series will follow the adventures of Cassian Andor (Deigo Luna) during the events that lead up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
There is no official release date for The Mandalorian, although Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who’s running the show, is deep into production. Congrats to Pascal!
