HBO seeking to cast two lead characters in Game of Thrones prequel

Like the army of the dead, casting for HBO’s as-yet-untitled Game of Thrones prequel series marches on. Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have already been cast as leads in Jane Goldman’s show, and we’ve heard rumblings of other actors being considered. Now, fansite Watchers on the Wall reports on a couple regular roles HBO wants to fill:
"Code-named “S2“, a black woman somewhere between her forties and sixties. They’re looking to cast an age-appropriate actress, aged 45 to 60.Code-named “A“, this is a 17-20 years old male; they’re specifically looking for a mixed race actor in this case."
As you can see, HBO isn’t giving us any character names or even code names; the network has learned to tighten up casting security over nearly a decade of making Game of Thrones, so it’s strictly letters and numbers from here on out. That makes it even harder to glean clues from what are already fairly bare character descriptions, although the “A” role has shown up before, meaning HBO’s attempts to fill it the first time around were probably unsuccessful.

Based on the ages and racial descriptions, it’s possible that these two characters are related, perhaps a mother-son, grandmother-grandnephew kind of thing. It’s also noteworthy that HBO is looking for black and mixed race actors at all, given that the cast of Game of Thrones is, by and large, racially homogenous.
The prequel is set during the Age of Heroes, thousands of years before the main series, so perhaps people are still making use of the Arm of Dorne, the land bridge that used to connect Westeros to Essos? (Officially, the Arm of Dorne was shattered before the Age of Heroes began, but it’s been a long time since then; who says the historians got everything right?) Or the show could have storylines set outside Westeros. What do you guys think?
