Westworld snags an award for their marketing campaign at the Clio Entertainment Awards over the weekend.
Westworld has snagged awards across the two seasons it has currently aired, and this past weekend it walked away with more at the Clio Entertainment Awards. For those of you who don’t know what this award ceremony honors–don’t worry, we got you!
This award ceremony honors shows, movies, and games for their marketing campaigns and how they use creative communications to appeal to their audience. As we all know, Westworld has some of the best and most exciting methods of marketing which range from the showrunners using Reddit to a makeshift website for Delos Inc.
Categories for the Clio Entertainment Awards include television/streaming, theatrical, home entertainment and games according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the television/streaming category, Westworld won an award for best events/experiential for SXSWestworld.
Known as “Live Without Limits”, this Westworld installation took place at SXSW earlier this year in Austin, Texas and involved a fake tourism campaign to visit Westworld and nearly 2 acres of land was used in Austin to recreate the fictional Sweetwater town.
The installation included 20 buildings and over 60 actors to allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the Westworld experience. Talk about some epic marketing, right? The SXSWestworld installation is precisely why the series walked away with a Clio Award–and we can’t say we’re surprised.
Showrunners Jonathan and Lisa Joy Nolan have also used Reddit as a means to hype up fans for the series, which included playing a prank stating that they would release season 2 spoilers for anyone interested and looking to avoid them during the course of the season.
In an era of advanced technology and a myriad of methods to promote television shows, games, and movies, Westworld is at the forefront of creating the best of the best when it comes to immersive experiences, and as the show continues to produce more material, it is likely to get bigger and better.
