22. Wilfred Mott

There’s an argument to say that Wilfred Mott is not a companion of The Doctor, but considering how instrumental he is to several adventures, there is no way he could be missed off this list. So for now, he is a companion and such a good companion he makes the list of greatest Doctor Who companions of all time.

Grandfather to companion Donna Noble, Wilfred ends up being one of Donna’s most trusted confidants, which is how he comes to know about The Doctor.

A lover of space, mystery, and adventure, he instantly believed Donna when she explained to Wilfred about her tales traveling through time and space. Wilfred actually ended up caring about The Doctor as if he was his very own son.

It wasn’t just about how much he cared for both Donna and The Doctor that saw him make this list, however. His involvement in storylines with The Master and the role he played is what secured him the position. He also encountered other companions as well, including Martha Jones, and Sarah Jane Smith.

Similar to the character of Brian Williams, Wilfred was basically all of us: giant Doctor Who fans who wouldn’t doubt for a second the existence of The Doctor and who would enjoy every second of the journey.
