25. Brian Williams

This was a very brief time as a Doctor Who companion, but a very memorable one all the same. Brian Williams, portrayed by Mark Williams, was the father of Rory Williams, so technically the grandfather-in-law of The Doctor. If you don’t know why that is, you will see later.

Harry Potter fans got a major kick out of seeing the actor playing another lovable father figure. Brain Williams was first introduced to Whovians in the episode “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.” You know, that episode with dinosaurs on a spaceship.

Brian Williams is one of the greatest Doctor Who companions of all-time because he represents every Whovian on the planet. He reacted to everything that was happening around him, and that sense of wonderment, and amazement, at what was happening is exactly how we would all react if we went on a journey with The Doctor.

While everybody else was panicking and trying to make sense of it all, Brian was just happily taking it all in and enjoying every single moment. However, Brian certainly had his uses for The Doctor as well, and appeared in several other episodes during Matt Smith’s era as the Time Lord.

Responsible for getting The Doctor to take both Amy and Rory back as full-time companions. He himself decided to not come alone because someone needed to stay and attend to Amy and Rory’s plants.

You have to wonder if Brian knew what fate lay ahead for his son and daughter-in-law, would he have been so eager to convince the Doctor to take them back?
