24. Handles

You might not agree with me on this one, but Handles was a pretty good companion for the Doctor, as he traveled with the eleventh Doctor as he searched for the planet Trenzalore. We can certainly call him a companion based on that, and that alone.

Handles was the name of the Cyberman head. That’s right; he was the head of one of the most fearsome evil things in the known universe that the eleventh Doctor came across in a Maldovarium Market.

With the habit of randomly interrupting The Doctor every now and again with random words, Handles became a guilty pleasure among Doctor Who fans as we routinely saw the eleventh Doctor argue with a Cyberman head while aboard the TARDIS, something that I don’t believe anybody would have thought possible during the classic era of Doctor Who. Traveling with a Cyberman would have been on par with The Doctor sitting down and having a cup of tea with the Dalek. It was just unthinkable.

It happened, and not for a brief amount of time either. Handles was with the Doctor for many centuries, at least 300 years I think. He was constantly being repaired due to the wear and tear that time had had on the robot. Eventually, The Doctor ran out of spare parts and it was no longer possible to rebuild him.

Right before The Doctor shut down Handles for the final time, Handles finally did what The Doctor had asked so long ago. He delivered him to Trenzalore.
