Today in obvious, Jason Momoa will not return as Khal Drogo
By Dan Selcke
Khal Drogo died at the end of Game of Thrones season 1, mercy-killed by his wife, Daenerys Targaryen. That was a long time ago, yet Drogo has cast a long shadow over the show, partly because he was a great character and partly because the guy who played him, Jason Momoa, has gone on to such great success; you can see him as Aquaman in Aquaman on the big screen on December 21.
That might be why fans speculate even to this day that Drogo could somehow return to Game of Thrones, with Momoa feeding the bear by hanging out in Belfest with the producers during filming and uploading the images to Instagram:
However, speaking to Digital Spy, Momoa set the record straight. “Yeah… he’s not coming back,” he said. “Nine years now, let him go.”
"It’d be a very short series [with Drogo alive]. Two seasons, he crosses the water and kills everyone. It’s no good if he comes back."
This reminds me a little of people asking Kit Harington if he would make a cameo appearance in HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, which is set thousands of years before the events of the main show. Naturally, the answer is no, but I get the reasons behind asking; these characters are beloved, and it can be hard to leave them behind. (Incidentally, we suspect Momoa may have been in Belfast that time to participate in a Game of Thrones retrospective special, but we’ll have to wait to be sure.)

As for Aquaman, Momoa pitches it as a wide view on the superhero’s story. “I always explain Justice League as a weekend in Arthur’s life – it’s just a Saturday and Sunday, and this [Aquaman] is his whole life story,” he explained. “I had to play him a certain way in Justice League and now we get the whole origin. Having that outlaw, someone who lives on the fringes of society and doesn’t take crap from anyone… I really like the idea of him being the reluctant king.”
“Reluctant king” makes him sound a little like Jon Snow. Momoa may have left Khal Drogo behind, but Game of Thrones cast as long a shadow on him as he cast on it.
