Avengers 4 gets a trailer, official title and a new release date!

As promised by Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige, we now have our first official look at Avengers 4, as well as a proper title, Avengers: Endgame. Check out the trailer:

Well that was… depressing, not that we expected anything else. As Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) reminds us, Thanos has wiped out half the living things in the universe, although the trailer makes it look like it’s more like 90%. Even the normally unshakable Captain America (Chris Evans) looks broken down, but who wouldn’t after such a crushing defeat? And to further bring things down, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is apparently stranded in space, perhaps trying to make his way home after fighting Thanos on the villain’s destroyed home world, Titan. He was the only one in his party not to be disintegrated in the Great Snap, which explains why he’s alone.

Of note is the Thanos’ crucified suit of armor, seemingly erected as a shrine on the site of the last movie’s climactic battle in Wakanda. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is notable for her absence, although perhaps Marvel is saving her debut for a longer trailer.

But hey, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is back after sitting out the first movie, and still very much alive, so that’s good. And Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) shows up at the end of the trailer to lighten things up. Rumor has it he could be key to getting the Avengers out of this mess.

Beyond the trailer itself, Marvel has moved up the release date for the movie. It was originally going to drop May 3, 2019. Now it’s April 26:

That could be right around when the last season of Game of Thrones drops, which also just got a new teaser trailer. Could be a busy weekend.

So what does everyone think of the trailer, and title? Rumors of longtime cast members on their way out could give a double meaning to the “Endgame” subtitle.
