Westworld: Thandie Newton scores a Golden Globe nomination!
By Ariba Bhuvad
Stay calm and carry on! Thandie Newton has just landed a Golden Globe nomination for her role on Westworld.
Westworld has changed so many lives, and in this past year, it’s been particularly gracious to the incomparable Thandie Newton. Fresh off her Emmy win just a few months ago, Newton has now landed a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television”.
Yes, that right! Our girl is killing it, and we couldn’t be more proud. She has some fierce competition, and why shouldn’t she? After all, the best should compete with the best. Also in this category are The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Alex Borstein, Sharp Object’s Patricia Clarkson, The Assassination of Gianni Versace’s Penelope Cruz, and The Handmaid Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski.
Obviously, our vote is for Newton all the way, and considering she already has an Emmy under her belt, the chances are looking rather good for her. We have to say that season 2 of Westworld highlighted some of Newton’s best work as Maeve.
Episodes like “Shogun World” and “Kiksuya” were groundbreaking and thought-provoking, and blew audiences away by her performance. There was something so emotionally compelling about her role in the second season, specifically on her journey to finding her “child”. It comes as no surprise that Newton is receiving recognition for it.
Unfortunately, Newton’s nomination was the only one for the series. There are some obvious snubs here and we will be diving deeper into them in articles to come. Once again, we are disappointed that Zahn McClarnon did not receive the recognition he so deserves. Seriously, did the voters not see “Kiksuya”?
Whatever the case may be, we are extremely proud of the series, the cast, and crew for giving us one hell of a second season. And awards or not, Westworld is one of the best shows out there. Besides, Maeve Millay is representing the entire series with her nomination–and we couldn’t think of anyone better!
The 2019 Golden Globes will air on NBC on January 6th, 2019. Don’t miss it!
