Iain Glen: HBO is “absolutely paranoid” about Game of Thrones spoilers
By Corey Smith
Security on Game of Thrones season 8 has been no joke. From high tech drone killers to filming fake scenes, HBO has pulled out all the stops to make sure nothing leaks ahead of the show’s final season. On a BBC Radio interview airing tomorrow, Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) remembers how intense it got:
"They’re absolutely paranoid now about anyone finding out anything about the series and spoiling it. We weren’t allowed a written word on a page. Everything was accessed through iPads with different security you had to get through to access it, which caused a problem for the actors, I have to say. But we found a way, either on phones or with pads…for it to be available on set."
Of course, HBO was unable to keep everything under wraps, not when it’s building spectacular outdoor sets, but there have been fewer leaks than there were ahead of season 7, so kudos.

Glen also remembered the start of filming season, when the cast assembled to read through the new scripts. “This season was the first season ever that we sat and read the entire arc of the story from beginning to end right through over the course of a day.” Kit Harington (Jon Snow) was crying by the end of that read-through, but according to Glen, he was far from the only one:
"There were a lot of tears that day…and it’s been a season of that because it’s been a season of farewells and finishes. Kit [Harington], if he wasn’t lying, had not read it, so he was reading it on that day for the first time."
And we’re sure fans will be crying soon enough.
But enough emotions; what could Glen say about what’s coming in season 8? “Honestly, these six episodes are absolutely phenomenal,” he said. “The writers really, really came up trumps….The way they pulled it all together was a real writing task.”
That sounds a lot better than some of the other predictions we’ve been getting. Thanks for the hope, Ser Jorah!
