Black Panther composer to score Disney’s The Mandalorian
As announced by StarWars.com, Grammy-nominated composer Ludwig Göransson will write the score for Disney’s live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Even if you don’t recognize the name, Göransson has been burning it up lately, writing scores for movies like Creed, Venom and Black Panther. He has also worked with Donald Glover — who played a young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story — on his latest Childish Gambino album. The guy is connected.

“Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe,” Göransson said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to [showrunner] Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try.”
Göransson is just the latest in a string of A-list talent Disney has hired for The Mandalorian. Former Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) will play the titular role as The Mandalorian, and will be joined by the likes of Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte.
They’ve also signed up a bunch of high-profile directors, including Taika Watiti, the guy behind Thor: Ragnarok, which is unquestionably the best Thor film and one of the better movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney is going all-in to make sure you watch The Mandalorian when it debuts on the studio’s new streaming service, Disney+, late in 2019.
