Every SPOILER we know for Game of Thrones season 8
By Dan Selcke
We’ll return to Highgarden, the former seat of House Tyrell
After hearing about it for years, we finally visited Highgarden, the bucolic castle occupied by the Tyrells of the Reach, in season 7. Unfortunately, no sooner did we see it than we saw the last living Tyrell, the indomitable Lady Olenna, die…although she really went down swinging, didn’t she?
According to Spanish-language website Cordópolis, we will see Highgarden again in season 8. Or rather, we’ll see the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, the real-life castle that stood in for Highgarden on the show. But there’s a twist: HBO didn’t film anything new at the Castillo; it’s just going to use some leftover shots from season 7. They may mean we see an establishing shot of Highgarden before we cut inside for a proper scene filmed on a sound stage in Northern Ireland.
Or — and this is the possibility that I like — we may see Highgarden as part of a montage of the great castles of Westeros, now covered in snow as winter tightens its grip on the Seven Kingdoms. After all, the Castillo does look great dusted with snowfall:
Something else that supports this theory: while filming season 8, the crew also briefly returned to Ballintoy Harbour in Northern Ireland, which has stood in for parts of the Iron Islands over the years, to pick up a few shots. It feels to me like they’re collecting shots of far-flung places to cut into a montage, but other interpretations exist.
