Donald Trump is doubling down on Game of Thrones memes
By Dan Selcke
And here I am again, reporting about President Donald Trump’s relationship with Game of Thrones. Just the other day, the president was photographed during a press briefing on border security sitting inches away from a Game of Thrones-themed poster he first tweeted back in November. “Sanctions are Coming,” it reads.
Reporters asked presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway why President Trump was sitting so close to the Game of Thrones poster. “I don’t know,” she said. “The president has had sanctions. He’s issued sanctions on any number of countries and individuals.” She also doesn’t know if Trump watches the show. “Oh, I’m not aware of that. I’ve never seen it in my life, sorry. I don’t watch a lot of TV.”
At the time of the original tweet, HBO noticed but didn’t seem particularly put out. “How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?” it tweeted. But it turns out that was just the warmup. President Trump has now posted this to his Instagram account:
Trump is referring, of course, to the southern border wall he’s been promising to build for his constituents since the beginning of his presidential campaign, the same wall that is currently at the center of a government shutdown. Will invoking Game of Thrones help Trump’s cause? Hurt it? I don’t know, but it sure is surreal.

You also have to wonder if Trump (or whatever Game of Thrones-loving staffer keeps producing these posters) has been paying close attention to the show of late, since when we last saw the Wall it wasn’t it great shape:
This isn’t the first time Trump has been connected with the Wall, either. This video still holds up really well:
I’m curious to see if the memes continue. What other Game of Thrones slogans could Trump use? “All men must vote”?
