Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – Series Eight begins today!

The latest series of the Fourth Doctor Adventures begins today, and it looks like the perfect jumping-on point for Doctor Who fans!
We may not have any more Doctor Who to look forward to on television this year. But thankfully, Big Finish have numerous ways of keeping our Who fix covered. Along with the regular monthly audios, we’ve also got many special releases and other ranges to look forward to.
One range that I’m sure many fans love is The Fourth Doctor Adventures. Featuring one of the most popular Doctors of all time, the range has been a big hit with Big Finish. Today, it begins it’s eighth series, and in many ways, it looks set to be the most exciting yet.
For starters, we’re introduced to a brand new companion: WPC Ann Kelso. Played by Jane Slavin, she’s a police officer from the 1970s. How she meets the Doctor and becomes his companion is currently a mystery, but I can’t wait to find out.
What’s particularly great about a new companion is that we also have a perfect jumping-on point for new audiences. So even if you’ve never listened to The Fourth Doctor Adventures before, this should make for a great introduction to the series.
The Syndicate Master Plan
But it’s not just a new companion that we’re getting this series. Series eight has the subtitle of The Syndicate Master Plan, and it sounds like it’s a key reason why Ann travels with the Doctor this series.
But what does it refer to? How are all the stories connected? It’s wonderful to have an arc to look forward to this year, particularly as it adds an unpredictable element to the Fourth Doctor’s adventures. It also strikes a nice balance between the storytelling of the Classic Series and the more modern approach of the New. (Even if, ironically, we didn’t really have an arc for Series Eleven.)

Just as we did for series seven last year, expect Doctor Who Watch to review each of these stories. And expect major twists to be revealed. Not in our reviews, but it sounds like we can expect things to change for the next half of the series, things that Big Finish will announce very soon. At least, if this quote from Big Finish’s announcement today is anything to go by:
"More details will be announced soon on The Syndicate Master Plan Volume 2 so do listen to Volume 1 NOW to avoid any spoilers!"
Considering Volume 2 is out next month, I’m definitely going to listen to Volume 1 right now!
