While movie sets might seem like glamorous places — and sometimes they are — often times they can be an exercise in hurry up and wait. And so it was that on one particular day, on the set of The Last Kingdom season 3, when actor Mark Rowley (Finan) was given access to a drone in-between filming scenes. Watch the fun unfold below!
What happens when @MarkRowley90 has some down time and access to a drone on set?

Well, it certainly looks like drones would make a shield wall obsolete. Also, Rowley’s got speed, although not enough to outpace the drone. It’s not the first time we’ve been taken behind the scenes on season 3, as The Last Kingdom’s official Twitter account has been sharing photos for weeks now.

Here’s a shot of Alexander Dreymon (Uhtred) and company filming season 3’s epic conclusion, complete with a severed head lying nearby.
I snagged this during one of the final days of s3's last battle week and it is perhaps my favourite bts pic. And here’s Thea Sofie Loch Næss (Skade) sharing a tender moment with her horse. It’s also interesting to note that each cast member has the same horse throughout their time on set.
Cast each have their own horse, and with it, their own special bond. #TheLastKingdom #Season3 #BehindTheScenes pic.twitter.com/XyEH4sHu2L

This shot looks to be from Bloodhair’s (Ola Rapace) first skirmish with Uhtred early in the season.

As revealed by this tweet, we love that the men are the ones in makeup the longest, although considering some of the tattoos they wear, it makes a lot of sense.
Makeup checks are for everyone! In fact, due to the nature of the makeup & prosthetics needed in #TheLastKingdom (think scars, battle wounds, tattoos, laid on beards, extra hair & layers of dirt & grime) it's generally the men who are in makeup longest. #Season3 #BehindTheScenes pic.twitter.com/sjpszGNl8l

Remember what we said about movie sets being less than glamorous? This scene illustrates our point, as the cast films a physically intense battle scene in what looks to be natural snow. Good times!

Season 3 of The Last Kingdom performed well enough for Netflix to order a fourth season, and we couldn’t be happier to see the further adventures of Uhtred son of Uhtred.
