There’s some Harry Potter magic in the air this week, with lots to note and report. Let’s get to it!
First up, the Broadway production of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, the play about Harry as a grown man, is looking for a new cast, per Backstage. The original cast members are moving on, which means there’s an opportunity to 30 and 40-somethings who read the original books years ago to step into the roles of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and many more. Who’s up for it?
Cursed Child is a stage play written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by John Tiffany and J.K. Rowling herself. It’s also available in book form, if you don’t have plans to take in a Broadway show anytime soon.
The producers are looking for a variety of specific things for the new actors. Some of the roles you remember from the books — Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco Malfoy — are meant for actors aged 37-40, and there’s a specific condition that Harry be no taller than 5’10. Then there are the teenage children of the original characters: Albus Potter, Scorpio Malfoy and Rose Granger-Weasley. Those actors should be in their late teens to early 20s, and no taller than 5’7”. Producers encourage people of any ethnicity to try out. Gotta be equity, though.
Those interested in auditioning can click here! Side note: cast members will make a minimum of $2095 a week, which is a good deal if you can get it!

And there’s more Harry Potter news! Per Digital Spy, the Harry Potter Warner Bros. studio tour is getting a huge expansion. In addition to the many attractions already in place, starting April 6, fans will be able to tour Gringotts Bank! Remember in the first book when Harry goes there with Hagrid and gets a glimpse of his new life? Or in Deathly Hallows when the dragon gets away? Ahh, the nostalgia.
The tour will take fans through the Lestrange Vault and the marble hall, amongst other locations. The crew made over 38,000 rubberizes pieces of treasure, as well as 7,014 Hufflepuff Cups alone. Fans will also get to see some goblin costumes and associated prosthetics vital to bringing characters like Griphook and Bogrod to life. The expansion is around 16,500 square feet, with the cost factored into the overall ticket price. I am there.
