Stranger Things season 3 to be “darker” and “bigger” than before
By Ariba Bhuvad
Stranger Things left things on a cryptic note, with the otherworldly monster the Mind Flyer looming over the Upside Down version of the Hawkins middle school. And while our motley crew of kids is seemingly happy for the moment, things are about to take a drastic turn heading into season 3. MTV News talked to Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) at the Sundance Film Festival, and asked about the new supernatural threat the kids will face this time around. “Oh yeah, it’s brutal”, Schnapp said. “It gets bad, it’s very big. I feel like every season it kinda gets more like it’s taking over Hawkins.”
If you’ve been following the series from the start, you know Stranger Things gets very, very chaotic, with the citizens of Hawkins always beset by one eldritch horror or another, from the Demogorgon to the Mind Flayer to Eleven’s goth look like one time. Expect more of that in season 3, but bigger, and hopefully minus the heavy eyeliner. “I don’t think anyone in our show gets a break, that’s kind of what it’s about,” Schnapp continued. “So I can’t really say I get to just relax by the beach. I have to go through something otherwise people are gonna stop watching.”

We think they could away with some happiness without hemorrhaging viewers, although yes, we’ll be craving some anguish and mystery sooner or later.
Meanwhile, Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler on the show, spoke to Newsweek about the unique challenges she faces on the set of Stranger Things, which we will again remind you is about inter-dimensional beings whom local children beat to death with spiked baseball bats:
"I hate thrillers. Well, I don’t hate them. But scary movies are not—I avoid them as much as I can really. But I do seem to find my way into it. Sometimes with Stranger Things, you know, when you’re working it’s not scary. It’s always way more about the characters. But it’s funny. This past year I find I’ve been screaming a lot."
Kudos to Dyer for facing her fears, and for giving us this tease:
"It’s definitely darker. It definitely felt a lot bigger, which I guess is a natural progression in shows like this. I’m personally really excited to see it because I do think it’s gonna be pretty big."
