Hopefully everyone is sitting down for this. Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Ser Pounce, Tommen’s beloved feline friend, is dead. We shall never see his like again.
Daw.
So just how did Ser Pounce go to the giant ball of string in the sky? Benioff tells the ugly story:
"Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive. So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air."
Showrunner Dan Weiss, chiming in, said that if we buy “the super-extended, super-charged Game of Thrones box set,” there will be an entire episode devoted to the death of Ser Pounce. Let that comfort you.

More seriously, Benioff and Weiss talked a little about the challenges of working with animals on a film set. “That cat was really not fun to work with,” Benioff said. “There’s a reason the phrase ‘like herding cats’ came into existence.” Dan Weiss seemed to agree:
"Dogs generally do what you ask them to do if they’re smart and well trained. Cats have their own agenda."
Okay, but if dogs are easier to work with why have we seen so few direwolves in recent seasons? Then again, we’ve seen even fewer cats.
