And now Jason Momoa might join the Dune movie
By Dan Selcke
Legendary Pictures and Arrival director Denis Villeneuve are adapting Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic Dune for the big screen, and they are doing everything they can to make sure you pay attention. This movie is already packed with stars, including Academy Awards nominee Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Paul Atreides, Josh Brolin (Thanos from the Avengers movies) as weapons master Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem as Freman leader Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgård as the evil Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as his nephew Glossu “the Beast” Rabban Harkonnen, and Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam. All that and Oscar Isaac and Zendaya might be in the mix as well. They are stacking this thing 30 feet deep with talent.
And they’re not done. The Hollywood Reporter has it that Jason Momoa, Khal Drogo himself, is in talks to star as Duncan Idaho, a loyal swordsmaster in the service of the Atreides family. Richard Jordan played him in David Lynch’s 1984 version of the book. Here he is dubbed into Italian for no reason:
This would be a big get for a movie that’s already gotten quite a few of those. Fresh off the success of Aquaman, Jason Momoa’s star is on the rise. Between his time on Game of Thrones, Stargate, and the DC Extended Universe, he’s very much cut out for a dense science fiction story about power, war and sand worms. We hope this is true.

If Momoa is cast, he might have to dig in for the long haul. The movie Villeneuve and company are making is only set to cover the first half of the first (and best) Dune book. If it’s a hit, who knows how long it could go on for?
