Bleed for the Throne and you win a trip to the season 8 premiere!
HBO is continuing its Game of Thrones season 8 marketing push. This time, fans are asked to do what many characters on the show have done on multiple occasions and Bleed for the Throne. For six days (March 7-12), HBO and the American Red Cross are partnering for a nationwide blood drive.
Cue the HBO statement:
"In partnership with the American Red Cross, HBO is inviting fans to prove their devotion and Bleed For The Throne-a gesture worthy of one of the biggest shows in television, and one designed to harness the cultural power of Westeros to help end blood shortages in the real world. HBO will kick off Bleed For The Throne — the largest blood donation promotional effort by an entertainment company in American Red Cross history — with six days of coordinated giving from fans across the entire country."
Blood drives will happen around the world, including in Norway, Sweden, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Croatia. Donations will go to help the thousands of patients in the Red Cross’ network. “No matter who you’re rooting for to take the throne, you can be a hero for patients in need,” said Cliff Numark, the Senior Vice President for American Red Cross Blood Services.

Fans in the Austin, Texas area can attend the annual SXSW festival and “prove their devotion” by participating in an” immersive blood drive” open from Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 9. After giving blood, donors will walk in the steps of the characters who have bled for the throne. “Those who earn an audience before the Iron Throne will be recognized and rewarded for their bravery.” I’ve never heard of an immersive blood drive. Does an Olly look-a-like come along and stab you with a needle?
