Aquaman will return for a sequel…eventually. According to Deadline, the oceanic thriller is set to release on December 16, 2022. We know; that’s super far away, and given that Aquaman has been one of the best DCEU films in…ever…we have to wonder why the wait will be so long.
Of course, Jason Momoa will return as the King of the Seven Seas. James Wan will return to direct once again.
It’s too early to tell who will return or what the story will involve, but we can assume that Aquaman’s love interest Meera (Amber Heard) and his evil no-good brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) will return. As previously reported by The Wrap, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will be coming on board as the writer for the sequel.

Johnson-McGoldrick said that Black Manta would probably have a bigger role in future Aquaman movies, so count on seeing him back, too. There’s a lot to speculate about. Luckily we’ve got the time to do it.
Anyway, this announcement doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Warner Bros. has laid a couple of eggs when it comes to their DC movies, with Wonder Woman and Aquaman being the bright spots. Of course they want to capitalize. We have yet to be updated on The Flash movie, or Green Lantern, or Cyborg. And with the recent departure of Ben Affleck as Batman and the rumored departure of Henry Cavill, who knows what will happen with the iconic Batman and Superman stories?
At least the DCEU has Aquaman, but that nearly three-year wait will be a killer.
