Iconic Disney villains to get their own series on Disney+

Disney villains may not be the fairest of them all, but they’re finally getting some love with their very own television series set to air on Disney+, the company’s upcoming streaming service. ABC’s Once Upon A Time had a successful run focusing on Disney’s heroes, so now it’s time to flip the script. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new show will be based on Serena Valentino’s book, Book of Enchantment.

Now, if you’re a hardcore Disney fan, you know the list of villains the show can cover is very long. Sure, we all know the evil Queen from Snow White or Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, but does anyone remember Madame Medusa from The Rescuers? Shout-out to Screen Crush for reminding us of that one.

The novel series contains stories about the Beast, Ursula, and the witch from Snow White, so it’s safe to assume these characters will make appearances at some point. Quantico’s Michael Seitzman will be writing and producing this series through his production company.

This series is just one of many Disney is readying for Disney+. They have a couple of Marvel shows in development, with the stars from the movies signed up for the ride (there’s a Loki show, one about Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and another about Vision and the Scarlett Witch); a show based on High School Musical, and a live-action Star Wars show called The Mandalorian. That one, which stars Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal in the lead role, just wrapped filming.

It’ll be interesting to see if all these shows can help Disney compete against streaming giants like Netflix and Hulu. Can everyone share and play nice? Or will they resort to sorcery like our infamous Disney villains?
