The season 8 premiere doesn’t have an “Adult Content” warning…but every other episode does

Just recently, we did some sleuthing and discovered the running times for each of the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. It’s all right there on HBO’s schedule. But the schedule tells you more than that. Take a closer look and see if there’s anything missing from the description for Game of Thrones Episode 801, the season 8 premiere:

The episode is rated TV-MA, as is expected for a show this with this much violence and sex. What’s missing here is the “Adult Content” label that usually accompanies episodes of the show. You can see it here in the description for Episode 802:

And keep in mind that episodes 803 through 806, the final episode of the series, all have “Adult Content” warnings. So what gives? Is the premiere going to be a squeaky clean affair that gives way to a sexy bloodbath?

First, let’s talk for a sec about what exactly “adult content” means. How does an episode of television earn that distinction. We don’t know exactly how HBO defines the term internally, but generally, it means the episode may contain “content, such as pornography or violence, that is not generally thought to be appropriate for viewing by children.”

We’re expecting the season 8 premiere to be big on reunions, character meetings and strategy, and light on sex and violence; there’ll be plenty of time for that later. Hence, no need for an “Adult Content” warning.

So there you go; on April 14, Game of Thrones season 8 will open with a safe episode the whole family can enjoy. After that, blindfold your kids.
