It’s time for Thrones Madness, our Game of Thrones tournament!

Each spring, as the flowers begin to bloom, 64 college basketball teams gather for the world’s greatest tournament, a nearly month-long contest to determine the best of the bunch. We here at WiC are holding our own tournament, Game of Thrones style. We’ve chosen 64 of the show’s most beloved characters, plus a few randos so there’s some spice in the gumbo. But you — yes, YOU — will ultimately choose the winners!

Here’s how it works. Similar to the real March Madness bracket, we’ve selected and seeded 64 characters. The higher a character’s seed, the easier their route to the championship (theoretically), as each round they advance the higher seed will always face the lower seed. As in previous years, our number one seeds remain Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion and Cersei Lannister, and we’ll unveil the complete bracket this coming Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. CST.

You’ll be able to vote for each matchup with a simple poll that opens and closes based on the real world March Madness tournament schedule as listed below:

Opening Round: March 21-22

Second Round: March 23-24

Sweet 16: March 28-29

Elite 8: March 30-31

Final Four: April 6

Championship: April 8

As with the actual tournament, our winners have not always been the highest seed. The first year we did this, Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish emerged victorious, while last year Jon Snow came out on top. This year we’re pulling for Hot Pie.
