A much-needed Game of Thrones refresher ahead of season 8

Varys

Like many of characters on this list, Varys was last seen at Dragonpit, doing his part to convince Cersei Lannister to take the army of the dead seriously. He didn’t say a word during the summit, but he sees everything, and remembers. Enemies of the realm forget that at their own risk.

At the moment, Varys is in the employ of Daenerys Targaryen, but he wasn’t shy about reminding her that he serves the realm first and foremost, and will do what it takes to protect it, even from her if necessary. Dany wisely told him to tell her when she begins to fail rather than try and take her down. It’s safe to say she’s the best boss he’s had in a while.

Thanks to the official season 8 photos, we know Varys will join Dany at Winterfell. He’ll do what he can to protect Westeros from the White Walker threat, although he has to be thinking about what Melisandre told him before she left the continent: that’s he’s destined to die in Westeros, “this strange country.” Will the Spider finally get caught in his own web in season 8?
