Game of Thrones is about to end, but the era of shows trying to become as big as Game of Thrones was is just beginning. One of those shows is The Witcher, Netflix’s adaptation of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of fantasy novels, about the adventures of a demon hunter named Geralt of Rivia, who has to navigate “a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”

The show is due out later this year. Right now, Netflix is shooting in the Spanish Canary Islands off the northwestern coast of Africa, and they are not alone. Photographers have been spreading behind-the-scenes images around the internet, like so:

So there will be one scene set in a desert/on a beach. Case closed.

And also there are hillsides.

Probably the most interesting photo came out last week, of actor Anya Chalotra in costume as Yennefer, a powerful sorceress and Geralt’s on-again/off-again/violent-again lover. This pic actually could contain some SPOILERS, so proceed with caution:

"Another pic from yesterday’s filming: Yen and the unnamed mage fight, the woman in red lies on the ground from netflixwitcher"

First of all, we get a good look at Yennefer’s outfit, which is appropriately flowy and black. It’s anybody’s guess what’s happening in this scene, though. Yennefer appears to be facing off against a mage — I wonder is special effects will be blasting from his hand by the time this episode airs — but I’m not sure who the woman lying between them is. Anyone have takes?
