Game of Thrones may be ending, but HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series — set thousands of years before the main show, before the Wall was up or King’s Landing was a place — is just getting off the ground. The pilot is set to be filmed this summer and HBO has lined up an impressive ensemble cast headlined by Naomi Watts (Mulholland DriveKing Kong).

But will she be headlining? Because Entertainment Weekly is now reported that Miranda Richardson, another respected and experienced actor, has been cast as a series regular. There are no details beyond that, of course, but that’s more than enough.

Richardson has been acting her face off for decades in movies like The Crying GameSleepy HollowSpider, and as Rita Skeeter in the Harry Potter movies. Like Watts, she’s mostly associated with film, but movie stars are all heading to TV nowadays anyway, so this isn’t a huge surprise. Also like Watts, she’s really damn good at her job, so I’m not gonna complain.

Showrunner Jane Goldman is lining up an impressive bunch of actors for her show, to the point where you wonder why HBO is having the make a pilot at all, when it’s ordered stuff like Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen show (which features movie star Jeremy Irons in a lead role) straight to series. Whatever. Miranda Richardson is here! Now how doomed is her character?
