Filming begins on Legendary’s Dune, Hans Zimmer to score
Legendary Pictures has begun filming on Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of author Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction novel, Dune. According to Geeks Worldwide, filming is taking place at Origo Films Studios in Budapest, Hungary (where Villeneuve filmed parts of Blade Runner 2049), as well as different parts of Jordan, which has a lot of geography that could stand in for the desert planet of Arrakis.

Legendary is sparing no expense, and that includes behind-the-camera talent. Per Consequence of Sound, Hans Zimmer — the guy behind The Lion King, Gladiator, The Dark Knight and Pirates of the Caribbean to name but a few — will step up the conductor’s podium for Dune. Go big or go home…and hang your head in shame like David Lynch when he tried to adapt Dune in 1984.
Anyway, Warner Bros. has released a synopsis for the film, which will only cover the first half of Herbert’s book:
"A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive."
Dune is scheduled to hit theaters in November of 2020.
