8. Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger)

He’s dead now, but for a long time, Littlefinger was a major power player in the game of thrones. He may never have worn a crown himself, but he was a master puppeteer and had his hand in nearly every alliance (and feud) in the Seven Kingdoms.

With great power comes great responsibility, and fans of the original Game of Thrones books had high expectations for for who would play the wily and dangerous Petyr Baelish. Thankfully, Irish actor Aidan Gillen proved himself more than up to the task.

Physically, Gillen has the Littlefinger look down. He’s on the shorter side at 5’9”, he has a fine-tuned smirk always tugging at the corners of his lips and he moves gingering around a space, not calling too much attention to himself but noticing everything.

Everything about Gillen’s career seems to have led him to this roll. Before Game of Thrones, he was quietly making a name for himself in prestige entertainment, making memorable appearances in major projects like The Wire, The Dark Knight Rises and the popular young adult series The Maze Runner. The man understands drama, an understanding he brought to his seven years as Petyr Baelish.
