10 questions Game of Thrones season 8 needs to answer
By Corey Smith
Is Cersei really pregant? Will Daenerys get pregnant?
Let’s set aside lofty questions about the Iron Throne and the Night King for a moment. What we really want to know is whether Cersei is actually preggers? She told Jaime she was, and he believed her, but this is Cersei Lannister we’re talking about. She’s been known to lie once or twice.
But honestly, Cersei’s pregnancy has our minds going a mile a minute. Was the “baby” a ruse to keep Jaime close? And if so, does that mean Cersei will drop the ruse in front of Euron Greyjoy, who presumably still wants to claim his “prize”? And if she is pregnant, does the baby ever get delivered? If the Night King or Jon and Dany (or all of them) survive the conflict in the North, Cersei is next on their list. That’s not the best environment for a new baby.
And what about Daenerys? She talked a lot in season 7 about how she can’t have children, which screams foreshadowing to us. Perhaps Jon Snow’s magic penis (he’s an undead fire wight, ya’ll) can break the curse on her womb? These are serious questions.
Game of Thrones has always explored the relationships between parents and children in all their messiness and wonder. With a staggering body count likely in the cards for season 8, someone will need to be around to carry the future forward. That might just mean babies, and lots of them.
