10. Bran changes the past

The show has spent a lot of time leading up to Bran Stark’s transformation into the mysterious, powerful Three-Eye Raven. Even now, the full extent of his powers are vague, but we know that he can affect the past — as seen when he gives a young Hodor permanent brain damage in “The Door” — and see the present. How will all of this affect the future?

There’s a down-low fan theory out there that Bran Stark can effectively “win” the game of thrones by opening a portal to the past. The possibilities here are endless, but a popular one involves Bran going back to the start and stopping Ned Stark from becoming Hand of the King, thus heading off the War of the Five Kings before it has a chance to get underway. Another theory has him visiting the famed Bran the Builder of legend, the same one who built the Wall, to gain knowledge about how to stop the Night King.

Pretty much all of these theories involving Bran rely on our limited knowledge of his abilities. To what extent can he meddle with the timeline before things get really out of whack? Does even he know?

Furthermore, if Bran were able to travel back in time and essentially undo eight seasons worth of drama, would that really be the most satisfying ending for the series? We’re getting eerily close to “It was all a dream” territory here, which could make all the Sunday nights we spent glued to the TV feel like a massive waste of time.
