EA teases new video game—Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The 2019 Star Wars Celebration opens its doors this weekend in Chicago, and on Saturday, Electronic Arts will reveal its brand new third person Star Wars video game — Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. To hype the event, the EA Twitter account shared this teaser today:

A broken lightsaber lies on a stone with circular runes etched into it. The subtitle: “Don’t stand out.” It looks like Fallen Order will dig into the stories of the Jedi who scattered and went into hiding across the galaxy to avoid annihilation by Emperor Palpatine.

In many of the new Marvel Star Wars comics — especially the Darth Vader arcs — exiled Jedi can only continue their training in the ways of the Force by finding ancient teachings in long-abandoned Jedi temples.

According to Polygon, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will follow a Jedi Padawan (a student, basically) who escapes the initial Jedi Purge on Coruscant, when Palpatine commanded his newly anointed disciple Darth Vader to go to the Jedi temple and kill them all, even the younglings.

EA and Respawn are teaming up to deliver Fallen Order by this holiday season. God of War director Stig Asmussen is the project leader. To further drive hype, Lucasfilm and Respawn are releasing a companion book called The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for $39.99. If the company is making an “art of” book, it bodes well for how potentially stunning the game will be.

So this is all looking pretty promising, although we have to note that, up to this point, EA has made rather a mess of the Star Wars video game license. Hopefully this will turn things around. If you want to know more about Fallen Order, tune into the EA Twitch channel on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CST.
