Game of Thones: What kind of ending will Game of Thrones give us?
By Cory Thone
The Breaking Bad ending
You remember the Breaking Bad ending, right? I have many…MANY…thoughts on it, but the gist of it was that Walter White gets to “save” his business partner/surrogate son/rival Jesse Pinkman, gets revenge on all the people who are worse than him, and gets to die a hero, I guess. He even gets the “ascending to heaven” shot at the end. What a super cool way for a guy responsible for ruining so many lives to get to go out!
Like I said, I have many thoughts on the Breaking Bad finale.
The problem is, it’s not as clean of an ending once you dig past the surface. Jesse may get “saved” from being killed by the *deep sigh* desert-dwelling drug-dealing Nazis, but where’s he going to go? He’s broke, his family has rightfully cut him off, and he’s got enemies in like four countries now probably. He’s certainly not going to go get Brock and live happily ever after. In fact, we’re getting a movie that apparently addresses this very topic.
I think this approach is maybe the *most* likely ending that we’ll get from Game of Thrones. Let’s just throw out some possible ending shots here: Jon or Dany (or whoever) is still alive, and they’ve won the battle against winter and the Night King. Humanity survives, but at a great personal cost. The remaining humans have a hard road ahead, with grain supplies destroyed and no ability to grow crops until the cold recedes.
Then comes the reflection on the lives lost. Tens..maybe even hundreds of thousands lost in the great battles that started in the far North all the way down to King’s Landing or wherever. The ending of Game of Thrones, regardless of who wins in this scenario, will be heavy with sorrow.
There’s also the option go in the full opposite direction of Sopranos or Breaking Bad and just be as completely unambiguous as possible, like…
