Three reasons Disney needs to revive Netflix’s Marvel shows on Disney+
By Erik Stanton
Reason #3: The One-Stop Superhero Shop
Disney has accomplished something remarkable with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Getting all these superhero characters together on the pages of a comic book is one thing, but to have them coexist so naturally on the big screen for this many years…it’s something else entirely, and very impressive.
Superhero movies have been coming out for years, but nothing compares to the MCU. Technically, Netflix’s Marvel shows are part of the MCU. The New York city that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen runs around beating up goons is the same one where Ironman and the gang took on the Chitauri horde in the first Avengers film.
Other shows set in this world include the aforementioned Agents of Shield (and its failed spinoffs), Cloak and Dagger, and Runaways. None of these have received as much notoriety as the mainline movies, but they all exist in the same space, and they all have their fan bases.
Marvel is already planning several original shows to debut on Disney+. Loki and the Scarlet Witch are both getting their own shows, for example. Superheroes are going to play a big in establishing the service. But for the plan to be truly comprehensive, for Disney+ to truly be the one-stop superhero shop Disney wants it to be, Netflix’s Marvel shows must be included. They’ve already paid their dues. It’s time to give them, and the fans, satisfaction.
While none of us fans know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes, we all know that Disney renewing Netflix’s Marvel shows will make hordes of fans happy, and make the company a hell of a lot of money. Assuming Netflix isn’t being difficult about the rights, it would wise for Disney to pay the fee, retain complete control of the licenses, and start printing money. The fans will be happy, it’s consistent with the business model, and these hardworking filmmakers get their jobs back. Let’s reach out on social media, make out voices heard, and get these New York heroes back on our televisions where they belong.
