Game of Thrones screencap breakdown: “Episode 802” Trailer
“How long do we have?” Jon Snow asks Tormund, a man freshly returned from the melted Wall and the horrors of the overrun Last Hearth. Looks like he survive,d at least.
Tormund’s grim response tells it all. The music swells and the pace of the editing picks up exponentially.
Dothraki bloodriders and Unsullied infantry hurry out the front gates of Winterfell, most likely to confront the White Walker army.
A trebuchet is fired outside the Winterfell gates.
Three figures stand on the snowy Winterfell battlements. From the look of their hair and cloaks we’d say they are Jon Snow, Eddison Tollet and possibly Brienne of Tarth.
Jorah hauls back on his horse in the middle of some intense action.
Missandei hurries alongside Grey Worm, seeing him off as he leaves to lead the Unsullied into battle.
Missandei and Grey Worm, lovers in a time of war, share a passionate, desperate kiss of parting. As two of the most beautiful people with one of the most engaging and heartwarming storylines on Thrones, it’s easy to see why they get their own tender moment in the trailer.
It’s almost like the characters themselves know, much to their own chagrin, that they’re expendable.
What is Daenerys reacting to here? Fear? Regret? Physical exhaustion? Or have all her dreams of personal conquest come shattering down now that she’s learned that Aegon (Jon Snow) is the Targaryen destined to take the Iron Throne? It sure complicates things when you’re in love with your nephew.
Jon charges out of the Winterfell gates to stand in awe of what he sees, and it can’t be good. We dip to black and hear Tormund’s answer to Jon’s question: “Before the sun comes up tomorrow.”
We fade up to the trailer’s final image: Tyrion peering over the icy Winterfell battlements. We don’t know exactly what he sees, but we can hazard a pretty good guess. One warmblooded human face in the icy blue cold of winter. A haunting shot.
It’s a darn good trailer, atmospheric and teasing the major storylines without giving anything away. While “Winterfell” sported some great humor and playfulness, it looks like it’s gonna get real dark, real fast. There isn’t a single shot of a dragon in this trailer, which is interesting considering how predominant they were in “Winterfell.”
We can’t wait for “Episode 802!”
