Tyrion’s Northern attire

While Daenerys sticks out like a sore thumb among the Northerners, the rest of her court are making more of an attempt to blend in. Tyrion wears darker clothing throughout the episode, donning furs while outdoors and wearing a heavy black vest during the meeting with the Northerners in Winterfell’s Great Hall. He’s prepared for the harsh climate of the North, but his costume is about more than just keeping warm. As Daenerys’ Hand of the Queen, it’s his job to help sway the Northern lords to her cause, and part of that means presenting them with something they’re used to.

Tyrion tries to appeal to the Northern lords during their meeting in the Great Hall, giving a speech about how they’ve brought their armies to Winterfell so they’d all have a better chance of surviving the Night King’s assault. Tyrion attempts to speak the same language as these people he hardly knows, and his outfit is a part of doing that. Sadly, his methods haven’t worked as yet, but we’ve no doubt he’ll keep trying.

Despite Tyrion’s willingness to blend in with the Northerners, he still wears his hand of the queen pin proudly on his vest. There’s no doubt about whose side Tyrion is really on. That’s a theme with her court. Missandei also dons heavy, black attire, but it’s fastened with a dragon pin. Team Daenerys might be trying to fit in, but they’re still making it known that they stand behind their queen.
