Arya’s leather garb

While we’re on the subject of characters whose costumes symbolize their growth, we have to talk about Arya. The episode draws a number of parallels to the Game of Thrones series premiere, with Arya looking at the random boy from the beginning of the episode and remembers when she too wanted to get a look at the army approaching Winterfell. Does anyone else miss little Arya and her helmet, though?

While Arya is still excited to witness the queen’s arrival, she’s far more restrained than she was when Robert Baratheon’s court arrived in Winterfell way back when. Her costume reflects her maturity as well, showing that she’s grown into both a woman a warrior. She’s no longer the little girl that Jon remembers, as evidenced when he asks whether she’s ever used Needle and she…undersells it. The two of them definitely have some catching up to do.

Arya’s garb isn’t just more mature though; it’s also suitable clothing for a warrior. While the younger Stark sister isn’t clad in armor just yet, her outfit is fitting for someone training to fight. It’s less bright and soft than her clothing during Robert’s arrival. Naturally, she fits right in with the other Northerners.
