Sansa’s dress and furs

Although Sansa’s outfits have remained relatively feminine throughout the entire series, her dresses during the later seasons of Game of Thrones have started to resemble armor. When her character was younger and more naive, her attire reflected that. When Sansa was attempting to find a suitor, she wore lighter and more revealing clothing; now that Sansa is the Lady of Winterfell—and presumably uninterested in romance after two unwanted marriages—her clothing emphasizes that, covering her entirely and providing a shield against any unwanted intrusion.

Sansa continues to wear such pieces during “Winterfell,” and fans can only assume she’s still on the defensive because she doesn’t trust the dragon queen that Jon’s brought home with him. She’s also preparing for a long winter and the army of the dead, so it’s probably a good thing she has a few extra layers to protect her from harm.

Notably, Sansa is no longer bearing the Stark family sigil that she did during “Battle of the Bastards”—perhaps she isn’t ready to take sides against Daenerys and her court just yet, though the tensions between the two women certainly seem to be leading there.
