Lyanna’s armor

Like most of the fighters at Winterfell, Lyanna Mormont is clad in armor by the end of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” That’s not unusual for someone about to find herself on a battlefield, but her conversation with Jorah may make this choice of costume more meaningful. During their brief interaction, Jorah tries to convince Lyanna to remain in the crypts with the woman and children. “You’re the future of House Mormont,” he tells her.

But, as Lyanna told us last season, she won’t wait around for men to fight for her. “I pledged to fight for the North,” she tells Jorah, “and I will fight.” The armor she wears is a testament to how seriously she takes her vow to protect her people. Its hard exterior matches her resolve. She refuses to yield to his request, firm in her decision to fight.

It’s also worth noting that Lyanna’s armor is mostly black. Some fans have viewed her conversation as an ill omen for House Mormont. The grim coloring of her armor could support that, but hopefully not.
