Fashion is Coming: Examining the costumes of “The Long Night”

During this week’s hour-and-a-half-long episode of Game of Thrones, fans finally got to see the outcome of the highly anticipated Battle of Winterfell. “The Long Night” was an intense episode with plenty of twists. Costumes were probably the last thing on viewers’ minds, especially given how difficult it was to see, well…anything onscreen.

But even if fashion wasn’t high on the priority list, plenty of thought still went into the clothing and weapons on display. In particular, the weapons used by many of the main characters were noteworthy, either because of their longtime significance in the series or because they were crafted specifically for certain characters to help them slay the dead.

And while many of the costumes in “The Long Night” were nearly identical—almost every character donned some type of dark armor—there were a couple of garments and accessories that stood out against the sea of blacks and browns.

With such a battle-heavy episode, the state of the costumes is also noteworthy. Most of those fighting saw plenty of wear and tear to their attire, but there’s one person who stays essentially untouched.
