Take the Black Live: Where does Game of Thrones go from here?

Today on Take the Black Live, we’re looking forward to Game of Thrones Episode 804, the most mysterious episode in the show’s history. And that’s not because the title has yet to be be revealed — that’s par for the course this season — but because very few people saw the twist at the end of “The Long Night” coming, and now, we’re adrift. Let’s talk through our feelings.
Some of the topics we hit include:
- As a preliminary matter, kudos to HBO for managing to keep that twist under wraps for this long; seriously, who saw the Night King being killed off halfway through the season coming.
- So where does the show go now that the central, existential conflict is resolved? It’s an interesting question that I, for one, never thought we’d be asking, but I’m thrilled we are. I didn’t expect to not know what happens next.
- “The Long Night” received a fair amount of criticism. We get into all the nitty-gritty details on this week’s episode of Take the Black Club, but we go wide here, theorizing that a lot (not all) of it has to do with why different people watch the show.
We’re in uncharted territory. I like it.
