Daenerys’ biege and red coat

Daenerys’ third outfit in “The Last of the Starks” is another important piece, and this time, it has nothing to do with drawing parallels between her and the other characters. Instead, the coat Daenerys wears to travel to King’s Landing and treat with Cersei is representative of her own story arc. As Culturess points out, it’s the color of the queen’s coat that’s important here.

Daenerys has worn a number of outfits similar to this one throughout season 8. The first time we see her in a fur coat is during “Winterfell,” where she dons a pure white coat that stands out vibrantly against the Northerners’ black and brown attire. We later see her in a similar coat that looks gray with red undertones. This week, Daenerys’ coat isn’t quite either of those colors. In fact, the color of her coat falls somewhere in between the two, making it look a bit worn out.

And it’s possible that the outfit is supposed to look like it’s seen better days. After all, Daenerys has certainly seen better days. Over the past two episodes, she’s lost her closest friend and her most trusted advisor. She’s also said farewell to another one of her dragons, and she’s facing the possibility of losing the war against Cersei. Oh, and there’s the tiny fact that she isn’t actually the rightful heir to the Iron Throne to begin with, but we’re all trying hard not to talk about that.

With all that in mind, it’s understandable that Daenerys’ clothing looks like it’s been through a lot. The coat itself might not have gone through so much, but the person wearing it has been driven to her breaking point. And that’s precisely what the coat represents.
