The Last Kingdom returns to [SPOILER] in new behind-the-scenes image

Netflix is currently deep into the filming of the fourth season of its medieval drama The Last Kingdom, which will follow the further adventures of Uhtred son of Uhtred. During the shoot, the production has shared behind-the-scenes images from set. This latest one may contain a minor SPOILER

So the show will return to Baddanburg, Uhtred’s ancestral home. Given the events of season 3, that’s a logical step for England’s most famous warrior. It also matches up with Netflix’s previously released synopsis for season 4:

"After the death of Alfred, the alliances between the kingdoms are fractured. Uhtred believes the timing is right to challenge his uncle Aelfric, played by Joseph Millson (Casino Royale, Banished), and take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. However fate shifts in a different direction, leading Uhtred to realize that his destiny is tied to Alfred’s dream of a united land. This, and Uhtred’s feelings for Aethelflaed, drive him back into the politics that threaten to break out into war."

Located in the extreme north of England, Bebbanburg was stolen by Uhtred’s scheming uncle at the beginning of the series, and while Uhtred has toyed with taking it back on multiple occasions, he always seems to be pulled back into the politics of Wessex, in the far south. Will Uhtred finally avenge his family’s betrayal and take his rightful place as the ruler of Bebbanburg? Or will Wessex and a potential love affair with Aethelflaed deny Uhtred the vengeance he’s long sought?

For viewers, either option is full of possibilities. The only bad news is that we won’t see anything until 2020. But given that filming is already going on, we’re guessing that will at least be early 2020. Rejoice, arselings!
