Game of Thrones is over, and cast members like Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) have to find other work. Not that it’ll be hard for someone of her talent and experience, but as she told SFX Magazine, after working on Thrones for so long, other shows and movies don’t always measure up.

"I read other scripts now and think, ‘This is trash!’ The stories are just not complex. And then sometimes you read a script which is definitely like 30 pages too long and you think, ‘But there’s still no twist!’"

True, a lot of folks had problems with the final season of the show, but it’s still one of the greatest television series of our time, always keeping fans on their toes. Williams thinks the ability to surprise was key to its success. “It’s sometimes really difficult to find something that surprises you. I think that’s what the show has always done so well.” Just ask the Night King; he surely didn’t see Arya Stark taking him down.

"And you can’t do that sort of writing unless you’re good at writing because otherwise it just becomes sort of nonsensical and you’re just being shocking for the sake of being shocking rather than writing something that’s believable."

For Williams’ part, she did see Arya’s storyline ending a little differently, but all things considered, Arya had one of the more satisfying arcs in this final go-round. Between killing the Night King, letting go of her vengeance, and setting sail for lands unknown, it may have even been Arya’s best season ever.

Williams find another role as iconic as this one? She can afford to keep looking as long as she wants. And if she doesn’t find what she’s looking for, there’s always the tech sector.
